About

Mayhem Border Morris started life in Wellington Community Centre in White Hart Lane in 2015.

The first practice saw 6 of us dancing to 3 pre-recorded tracks on CD in the January of that year – Gordon couldn’t dance, teach and play all at the same time. We danced The White Hart, The Iron Duke and Witches Three and nearly filled the hall. It didn’t take much filling.

By the time summer came we had 8 dancers, 2 musicians, a program of 8 dances, a list of pubs to dance at and we finished our Summer Season at Sidmouth on our Wednesday dance-out night in a storm…..literally. Don’t believe us?…then click here.

Eventually more dancers and musicians came and we moved out to The Memorial Hall at Nynehead which gave us a lot more space to have fun in.

Throughout this time we developed a lively, flowing style full of energy, and wrote more dances and tunes to suite our particular brand of Border.

We quickly found ourselves dancing at festivals and as invited guests of other well established sides including Wreckers, Glory of the West, Bradninch Millers, West Somerset Morris and the mighty Beltane.

Time and life moves on and we moved to Plymouth and those dancers who were still based in Somerset have gone on to do their own thing as Bootstrap Border Morris.

With two moves and a global pandemic out of the way the time feels right for some more dancing.

And, so Mayhem goes on with more new tunes, new dances but always with the same unique and energetic style. We will always be MAYHEM.
